Using Aerial Booms to lift materials
Sample Manufacturer Approval Process
Note that this does not guarantee manufacturer approval but one contractor has been successful in gaining approval for his company by following the steps outlined below.
- Initial Inquiry: Contractors interested in using aerial lifts for material lifting must first submit an initial inquiry to the manufacturer’s designated contact person. This person is usually a product safety director. This inquiry should include details such as the type of materials to be lifted, the duration of the project or request, and any specific requirements or concerns.
- Review of Requirements: Upon receiving the initial inquiry, the manufacturer will review the requirements and determine if the proposed use of aerial lifts aligns with safety guidelines and manufacturer specifications. They may request additional information or clarification from the contractor if needed.
- Submission of Documentation: Contractors may be requested to submit the following documentation for review:
- Proof of proper training and certification for operating aerial lifts.
- Detailed work safety plan outlining the intended use of aerial lifts for material lifting, including load capacities, attachment methods, and safety measures.
- Inspection records for the aerial lifts to ensure they are in good working condition and compliant with safety standards.
- Safety Assessment: The manufacturer will conduct a safety assessment of the proposed use of aerial lifts for material lifting.
- Approval Process: Once all documentation has been reviewed and the safety assessment has been completed, the manufacturer will make a determination regarding approval for the use of aerial lifts for material lifting. If approved, the contractor will be notified in writing and provided with any additional instructions or requirements.
- Training and Orientation: Contractors approved to use aerial lifts for material lifting must ensure that all personnel involved in the operation receive proper training and orientation. This training should cover safe operating procedures, emergency protocols, and the proper use of safety equipment.
- Ongoing Compliance: Contractors are responsible for maintaining ongoing compliance with safety regulations and manufacturer guidelines throughout the duration of the project. This includes regular inspections, maintenance checks, and adherence to safety protocols.
- Documentation and Reporting: Contractors must keep detailed records of all activities related to the use of aerial lifts for material lifting, including inspection reports, maintenance records, and incident reports if applicable.
