President's Message - Nov '24

President's Message,

Get Your Steps in…A Great (Membership) Health Plan

Preparing for year-end as a (small) business owner, or leader, or even as an individual is crucial to ensure a smooth transition into the new year. Here are ten simple steps you can take:

  1. Review Financial Statements: Check your balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement to assess your business's financial health. This will help you understand your profitability and cash flow. We look forward to your renewed membership for 2025. It is going to be another value-packed year for our members and our industry!
  2. Organize Your Records: Ensure all your financial records are up-to-date and organized. This includes invoices, receipts, payroll records, and tax documents, and your mbcea.org/member-compass.
  3. Reconcile Accounts: Reconcile your bank accounts and credit card statements to ensure all transactions are accurate.
  4. Prepare for Taxes: Gather all necessary tax documents and consider meeting with your accountant to discuss tax planning. Make sure you've made all your estimated tax payments. Considering charitable donation, please choose the MBI Curriculum. We are underway creating a Metal Building Assembly curriculum to train the next generation of metal building assemblers and ensure the integrity of our buildings. Can we count on you to donate now?
  5. Manage Inventory: If you have inventory, conduct a physical count, and reconcile it with your records. This will help you identify any discrepancies and plan for the next year.
  6. Review Business Performance: Reflect on what went well and what challenges you faced this year and use this information to set goals and make improvements for the upcoming year. The Registration for the 56th Annual Spring Conference (May 2025) will be open soon. You will not want to miss the Charlotte experience!
  7. Update Vendor Information: Ensure all vendor and membership information is accurate and up to date. Your MBCEA Member section added new market segments to show what your team, your company is skilled and interested in. Have you updated yours? www.mbcea.org/member-compass.
  8. Back Up Data: Make sure all your important files and data are backed up securely. Did you log in to the June “MBCEA Presents: Hackers, American Business and Easy Money” Webinar? If yes, I know you followed with precautions, if not here is the link in the members area: mbcea.org/products/recorded-meetings Can’t see it? Not a member? Join now!
  9. Set New Goals: Based on your performance review, set new financial and business goals for the upcoming year. To leverage our tagline “Reaching new heights together” our committees, your chapter, our industry needs you to share your experience, and even more, your imagination.
  10. Celebrate Achievements: Take time to acknowledge and celebrate your business's successes and milestones. Thank you. Each of you, for that which you did this year…so far. A second thank you for accepting this challenge of asking the MBCEA what we can do for you, and please be prepared for me to ask, “what will you do for the MBCEA in 2025?”

By following these steps, you will be well-prepared as we head for the end of the year and set yourself up for success in the new year! Happy Thanksgiving to you all.

Be Safe, Be Great,

Robert Tiffin
